About Us

The Arc Quinebaug Valley is a not-for-profit organization that has been serving the needs of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other life-affecting disabilities and their families since 1952, in Northeastern Connecticut.  Our mission and commitment to the community has been to provide supports that reflect dignity, respect and choice.

The Arc has a rich history of success and accomplishment.  Our caring, nurturing, professional staff is highly trained and qualified to meet the needs of those we support.  Our diverse Board of Directors, made up of local business leaders, professionals, teachers, family members and participants, are strong advocates who help create a successful team.  Our services touch every aspect of a person’s life including:

- Retirement Services                           - Individual Placement
- Group Supported Employment           - Individualized Day
- Employment Services                         - Extended Day
- Education Services                             - School to Work Transition

Our Education Program has experienced considerable growth over the past year.  The children we serve have a variety of developmental needs including autism.

The Arc Emporium, located in downtown Putnam, CT offers a wide variety of shopping experiences, including a thrift store that features household goods, local products, sweets and treats, and products designed and produced by our participants and staff from The Arc of Quinebaug Valley Day Service program.

Agency resources include individuals supported and their personal network, staff, and Board of Directors, as well as our local community.  In addition to operating contracts through the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and Department of Children and Families (DCF), we partner with local public school systems offering students individualized programs that help them achieve the goals of their Individual Education Plan (IEP.)

The agency recently became an Employment Network through the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS).  Successful fundraising efforts have also helped to enhance the effectiveness of our programs.  The Arc Quinebaug Valley has always held the belief that true learning comes from being involved in the community.  The ability to build social relationships, to experience realistic life challenges and to be seen as a valued, contributing member of the community are all positive outcomes of our services.
