Dear Friends of The Arc of Quinebaug Valley,
It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child. Community support is vital to the health and well being of the family unit. In order to succeed and thrive, children need opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive environment. This concept is even more vital when there is a child born with a life-long cognitive, intellectual, physical or developmental disability.
For the past 57 years The Arc of Quinebaug Valley has been there for families to turn to, from the birth of their child through their retirement years, with comprehensive programs and support. Advocacy, education, and resources like staffing and transportation have been a lifeline for families searching for “whatever it takes” to help them successfully raise their children with disabilities.
However, many families are now in a situation where financial concerns have threatened the very core and heart of their existence – the stability and nurturing environment that their child needs. Families are the greatest natural resource available to children with disabilities. Families are the major providers of love, care, support, and education. The Arc of Quinebaug Valley is committed to helping families who have children with disabilities raise their children at home, in their own community.
You can help. Your contributions to The Arc will directly provide critically needed services and other resources that help to preserve, strengthen, and maintain the family unit. Faced with inevitable funding cuts from government contracts The Arc relies on the generosity of the community to continue its mission of providing quality supports to children and adults in Northeastern Connecticut. Programs including after school, young adult transition, employment, residential, retirement and recreation provide continuing education and rehabilitation.
Yes, it takes a village. In the words of Christopher Reeve, “We are all part of one family, the American family. And each one of us has value. Each child who comes into this world should feel special – every boy and every girl.” Your tax deductible contribution will make a difference in the life of someone with a disability – not just any someone – but someone right here in your community. Thank you for your support of our “Creating Tomorrows by Building on the Dreams of Today” campaign.
Yours sincerely,
